Canadian Oblate recognized for heroic virtue

Brother Kowalczyk could be Western Canada's first saint
Brother Kowalczyk, who died in Edmonton in 1947, was known for his prayer, devotion, and hard work.
Brother Anthony Kowalczyk was born in Poland, but spent over 30 years working at an Alberta school. He served God through prayer and labour.
An Oblate who spent much of his life in prayer and service in western Canada has been recognized by Pope Francis for his “heroic virtues.”

Now recognized as “venerable,” Brother Anthony Kowalczyk is eligible for beatification if a miracle can be attributed to his intercession. Kowalczyk would be Western Canada’s first saint.
