Mercy for Japan, not Blackhawks

Shoring up Japan support with Luongo jersey

Students at Our Lady of Mercy Elementary decided they could make a difference in the world, and just in time for the NHL Playoffs.

When a kindergarten girl heard two Grade 6 students make an appeal regarding to aid in Japan at a school assembly, she went home and shared the story with her parents.

Her family was so moved that her father donated a signed Roberto Luongo jersey to be auctioned off online.

For those of you who have given up TV, radio, and/or sports for Lent, Luongo is the Vancouver Canucks' star goaltender and current scourge of the Chicago Blackhawks.

The minimum bid is $500 and all proceeds will be donated to Japan Effort Relief.

The online auction begins Wednesday, April 20 and closes at Thursday, May 5 at midnight.

Go to www.ourladyofmercy.ca for information about the auction.
