A habit for uncomfortable situations

Comedian Larry David to play nun in Three Stooges remake
Larry David

Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator/star Larry David has reportedly inked a deal to play a Catholic nun in an update of "The Three Stooges."

In the Farrelly brothers' upcoming film, the famously grouchy actor will take on the role of Mother Mengele, the unfortunate nun who runs the orphanage where the stooges grow up and learn their mischievous ways.

Interestingly, the Jewish actor's character shares her surname with Joseph Mengele, the SS officer and Auschwitz doctor who performed sickening experiments on Jewish prisoners during the Holocaust.

Fox News reports that Catholic League president Bill Donohue hopes the film doesn't satirize Catholics too much.

“There is nothing wrong with poking gentle fun at priests and nuns in film or in the theater. But when it is done to the exclusion of any reverential treatment, it smacks of an agenda,” he said. “To say that Hollywood is not exactly enamored of Catholicism would be a gross understatement.”

  3. The issue of portrayals of Catholicism in film is always interesting and some of us like Seinfeld. So, I'm glad this was posted. It's a fun bit of information. We don't all have the same taste and that's fine.
