MPs refuse to legislate against coerced abortions

Roxanne Fernando
Members of Parliament have just voted down Bill C-510, which proposed to make it a crime to coerce a woman to have an abortion. The bill was introduced by MP Rod Bruinooge and named after Roxanne Fernando, killed by her boyfriend because she refused to abort her child. It was defeated in the House of Commons by a vote of 97 to 178.

  1. Thanks for this notification. At least the bill got 97 votes. I'm hopeful that Canada can gradually pull away from the abortion mentality. Let us keep the prayers going.

  2. Oh the logic of politics! Protecting women from coercion could be the thin of the wedge that restricts their erstwhile "freedom to choose" by establishing the precedent of a legal restriction that concerns abortion.

Some years ago, a poet penned a little ditty called "Should I write a letter to my congressman." It fits for mor ethan just US legislators:

    A congressman has two ends,
A sitting and a thinking end.
    And since his whole career
    Depends upon his seat ...
    Don't bother friend!

Bad strategy, but good insight into political thought processes.
