CCODP responds to food crisis in Niger

The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace is responding to the growing food crisis in Niger. As the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis, Development and Peace and its Caritas partners are launching a $3.7-million program that aims to help close to 250,000 people. The program includes activities such as screening children and pregnant woman for malnutrition and providing treatment, distributing food and seeds, and organizing cash-for-work programs to increase household incomes.

  1. When we talk about the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P) the first question that comes to my mind is how much money will D&P be giving to organizations supporting or promoting contraception and/or abortion services? (See Litesitenews or SoCon or bust for details.) Do the people of Niger a favour, avoid D&P, donate to Caritas Internationalis directly.

  2. The allegations posted by the Lifesitenews have already been proven to be just allegations and totally untrue. This destructive venue which is not even a Catholic Church sanctioned one aims to divide us Catholics in the name of "pro-life" issues.

Development and Peace is the official Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis, so any donation to Caritas goes thru D&P. Following the message of the teachings of Jesus Christ, Development and Peace has always been in the forefront of helping work for justice, peace and development of all our needy brothers and sisters in the Global South.

  3. CCODP adheres to Catholic moral teaching as it is closely linked to the Bishops and the Church in Canada. Any suggestion they support contraception and/or abortion services through their partners is at best silly and at worst a malicious attempt at slander. If they support the humanitarian actions described above, as Catholics we should fully support them.

  4. Do not confuse Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P) with Caritas Internationalis. They are not the same.

The evidence against D&P show they are in thick with agencies supporting abortion and contraception. Check it out for yourself. The facts are well documented including pictures and links: http://www.socon.ca/or_bust/?cat=39 D&P and D&P is still doing this. Further, D&P has made a number of slanderous statements to prolife 'Campaign Life Coalition' which they later apologized for after a threat of a law suit. http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2010/jul/10073014.html

Is this the agency we want handling our charitable gives?

  5. D&P has not answered any of the SPECIFIC allegations against them. Not one.

They speak in generalities without addressing the substance of the issues.

There are approx. 50 groups who are either pro-abort, pro-contraception, or explicity anti-Catholic. None of this has been rebutted by D&P.

    None. Of. It.

It's becoming a parody and a tragedy at the same time.

    Here's the index page:

    http://www.socon.ca/index/dp_abortion.html

Either address the evidence assembled (the pictures, the eye witness accounts, the testimony of their own partners in audio, in print, on their own websites, etc. etc. etc.) or repent.

    It's as simple as that.

Frankly, propagandists for D&P need to put up or shut up.

The Bishops' Plenary Assembly in October will be presented with some substantial changes to how D&P operates, and that will serve as a vindication for the people who have brought these allegations forward.

Shame on D&P. Shame on the lies and malicious charges that they later "apologized" for...only when faced with legal sanction, of course.

Shame on the Catholic bureaucracy who has left this garbage wreak for 18 months, and have kept the blood money flowing...

Shame on the Catholic lap dog press who have refused to cover this as they should have.

  6. Claims by "Anonymous" claims that D&P has refuted the evidence are completely false! How dare you make such a statement! God help us!

  7. First, Susan, Development and Peace is Caritas - they are one in the same.

You folks always speak with such certainty but you don't listen to reason and you are certainly not swayed by facts.

The fact is that D&P has been cleared by the Bishops of any connection to groups supporting abortion.

On June 28, 2009, the Committee of Inquiry came to the conclusion that the allegations that “... financial assistance by Development and Peace aided projects related to the promotion of abortion” were unfounded.

John your maddening cry for D&P to refute every allegation has been done, but why let the truth get in the way of a good story.

It is very sad that intelligent people waste so much of their time trying to defame an organization that is doing important work.

You are a sad lot and fortunately there are very few of you and many committed Catholics that will make sure the good work of Development and Peace continues.

  8. No it's not, Paul McGuire. D&P is only a member of Caritas. Read the above article. And, unlike D&P, Caritas is not associated with abortion or contraception.

Good Catholics wanting to avoid the risk of their money going to anti life agencies should donate to Caritas directly and avoid D&P.

The evidence against D&P including links, photos and videos can be found here:

    http://www.socon.ca/index/dp_abortion.html

You can deny the facts against D&P all you want, Paul. It will not change the evidence against them. People can easily see the truth for themselves at the above link. The evidence against D&P is damning!
