We dutifully reported it, but there seemed something curious about the figures. When so few clergy have actually been involved in abuse, the numbers just didn’t seem to ring true. Even the pollsters admitted they were astonished by the numbers. Well it turns out there was good reason to be astonished. The poll didn’t meet the most elementary standards of poll-writing, as sociologist Reginald Bibby points out.
