The date for the canonization of Blesseds John XXIII and John Paul II has been set for April 27, 2014. Pope Francis made the announcement on Sept. 30 during a meeting with cardinals.

The late Popes will be declared saints on Divine Mercy Sunday, the second Sunday of Easter.

"The canonization date couldn't be more appropriate," according to George Weigel, biographer for Pope John Paul II. Find out why here.
