One of Canada's best-known overseas development agencies will soon receive clearer guidelines on whom to deal with when distributing aid. Deborah Gyapong reports from Ottawa:
Catholics, even Catholic bishops, may disagree about how far a Catholic charity can go in cooperating with non-Catholic agencies."There are divergent opinions out there," said Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton, president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.But a document that will guide the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) by the Canadian bishops will be released early this year.Controversy has buffeted CCODP over the choice of its overseas partners ever since online reports accused the organization of funding projects run by groups pro-life sites called "pro-abortion."
