"City of Champions" recognizes a centennial achievement

Edmonton Archdiocese to celebrate 100th anniversary


The city of Edmonton hasn't had a lot to celebrate in recent years. The glory years of the "City of Champions" has long since past. However, Ramon Gonzalez of the Western Catholic Reporter reports on the 100 year milestone for the Archdiocese of Edmonton:

In late 1912, the Vatican divided the vast Diocese of St. Albert and created the Archdiocese of Edmonton and the Diocese of Calgary in its place.

The decree, issued by Pope St. Pius X, mandated that the headquarters of these newly created dioceses were moved to Edmonton and Calgary respectively.
