Pope Francis welcomes Benedict back to Vatican

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has returned to the Vatican after a two-month absence, Catholic News Agency reports. He moved to the papal summer household outside Rome so as not to interfere with the papal election that elected Pope Francis.

He was met by Pope Francis when he arrived at his new, permanent home, the Mater Ecclesiae (Mother of the Church) monastery. After their greeting, the two walked into the chapel of the monastery for a moment of prayer.

"He is now pleased to return to the Vatican, where he intends to devote himself, as he announced on Feb. 11, to the service of the Church in prayer," said a Vatican statement released on May 2.
